On-campus housing with utilities included; available through a lottery system.
Malpractice, health, and life insurance.
Lunch provided Monday-Friday.
On-campus day care.
Uniforms and laundry service.
Vacation: four weeks in each year of training.
Support for attendance at national conferences when presenting projects as first author.
401(k) match enhancement: In 2022, we accelerated the 401(k) matching eligibility period for residents and fellows to provide a 100% employer contribution match on up to 3% of voluntary resident/fellow contributions, beginning day one of the contract period with Northwell. The vesting period was also shortened to two years. Importantly, each year of contribution counts toward a potential future attending vesting period, even if there is an interruption in your Northwell employment (e.g., leaving for fellowship elsewhere and then returning as an attending physician).
Cultural Heritage Day: All residents are granted one Cultural Heritage Day per academic year–one paid floating holiday for any cultural, religious, or public observance, as approved in advance by the program director/designee. This is in addition to the 20 days of paid time off that you already receive each contract year.
Wellness days: Our training program provides four wellness days each academic year to allow trainees sufficient protected time for personal health maintenance and well-being.
Leave policy: In addition to the paid time off noted above, Northwell provides residents and fellows with 100% of their salary for the first six weeks of the first approved medical, parental, or caregiver leave of absence taken. Residents and fellows are eligible for this benefit as soon as they begin their training programs.
Resident and Fellow Mental Health Program: With flexible scheduling and no out-of-pocket costs, this confidential program helps serve the mental health needs of our physicians in training.
Discounts, well-being programs and additional benefits: This includes free smoking cessation resources from Northwell’s Center for Tobacco Control, discounted gym memberships, free and confidential counseling services from our Employee and Family Assistance Program (EAP) and BeHealth, Federal Credit Union membership, and many more.
